Sipping on space dust (or something like it)
The funny thing about writing is that the busier I am, the quieter I appear online. Even though only a few of my articles published in October, I’m working at warp speed behind the scenes. Some of the stories I write are published the same day I submit them, while others can take as long as six months.
This month, I finally got to see my favorite project go live online. I was hired by Vox Creative to work on this ad campaign for Tito’s Vodka. The concept was light-hearted and creative, but rooted in hard science. My dream combination!
Even though they always leave my head spinning, the best part about my job is interviewing astronomers about the mysteries of the universe.
I worked with Vox’s creative team to conduct research for an explainer video and then I wrote a short and sweet companion article. Ever since my years as production editor for Meteoritics & Planetary Science, I’ve kept in touch with planetary scientists. My network of astronomy experts is always expanding (like the universe—ha!), and I was thrilled to connect an awesome astrophysicist to this project so she could explain how scientists figured out that space dust might taste like a raspberry cocktail.
This month, I also wrote about how to manage 4 generations in the workplace and why earth scientists are using machine learning to study climate change.
Behind the scenes, I’ve been busy interviewing subject matter experts for stories that will publish in November and December. I’m also thrilled that I’m adding two new awesome clients to my roster. They are both large research institutions that were established in the 1800s. (I’ll tell you exactly who they are next month when everything’s official.)
I love how these organizations are carrying their legacies into the 21st century by using content marketing to share their scientific advancements with readers who are all over the world.
As I write this, I’m sitting in my dining room getting ready to conduct 2 interviews via video call. Then I’ll do a bit of research and outline a story, pick up the kids from school, and head out for trick-or-treating in the rain! This weekend, I’ll wrap up another fun season of coaching the littlest soccer players. They finally learned about passing, which is making the games truly delightful to watch.
Are we sure there are only 24-hours in each day? When we change the clocks this weekend, perhaps we could add a few extra hours instead of only one.
Happy Halloween, my friends!
